PM Modi calls Nepal's K P Oli, invites him to visit India

NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi spoke to Nepal communist leader and likely new Prime Minister K P Oli and congratulated him on CPNUML's victory in the recent polls. Modi also spoke to P K Dahal Prachanda, Maoist leader and Oli's alliance partner.

The PM also spoke to Sher Bahadur Deuba, the outgoing prime minister, said MEA spokesperson Ravish Kumar.

According to a report in Kathmandu Post, Modi invited Oli to visit India after the formation of government. "PM Modi told Oli over telephone that the left bloc's success will strengthen democracy in Nepal while expressing hope that the alliance's victory will maintain political stability and economic development," said the report. Oli is also said to have invited Modi to Nepal.

The Left alliance won 27 seats while the ruling Nepali Congress bagged five in the polls that many hope will bring much-needed political stability to the country.
