“Russia is a Leading Partner of India in the Defence Sector”

Russia has been in the past and presently is a leading partner of India in the defence sector – Manohar Parrikar, Indian Defence Minister, emphasized this today in Moscow, at a meeting of the Indo-Russian intergovernmental commission on military-technical cooperation.


India — said the minister — has proposed to the Russian producers to take part in the military-technical program “Make in India” and has established a number of measures for this purpose.
Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, in his speech at a meeting of the intergovernmental commission noted, that India and Russia have reached a level of closer industrial cooperation in the sphere of military-technical cooperation. Our partnership — he stressed has really progressed from the relationship of a seller and buyer to a mutually beneficial partnership. In the future, — stated the Russian minister, — we perceive creation of the multi-purpose transport aircraft, of the fifth generation fighter aircraft, of a number of projects in the naval area.

The consolidated position of our countries — said the Minister Sergei Shoigu has a stabilizing effect on the international situation. In the last year — recalled the minister — we successfully conducted joint exercises in all the three branches of our armed forces. In November and December 2015, reported Sergey Shoigu — Russia and India are planning to hold anti-terrorism and naval exercises. They will be held in India.

Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar expressed condolences to Russia over the death of passengers – victims of the A-321 plane crash over the Sinai Peninsula.
The defence ministers of Russia and India signed a protocol aimed at the development of military-technical cooperation between Russia and India.
Meeting of the Indo-Russian intergovernmental commission on military-technical cooperation, as well as the previously held meeting between the two countries' intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and cultural cooperation on the October 20 in Moscow are preparations for the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Russian Federation. The annual Russian-Indian summit is scheduled for December. A package of important bilateral agreements is expected to be signed during that period.
